What Is Proper Method For Cleaning Vent Filters And How Frequently Should Filters Be Cleaned?

Columbine Appliance & Fireplaces suggests that the filters in the retractable section of the vent in the downdraft be removed and cleaned frequently as doing so improves the overall operational effeciency of the ventilation system. Once removed the filters should be cleaned in a hot water detergent solution or in the dishwasher. Columbine Appliance & Fireplaces recommends to not use the downdraft ventilation system absent of filters. Reinstall the vent filters making sure they are securely in place.

It is also important to note that the downdraft ventilation system will not operate if the filter(s) are not returned to their proper position. If the handle(s) are not completely locked the vent may not raise back up even if retracted.

What if retractable downdraft vent does not work after reinstalling clean filters?
if the vent does not operate after reinstalling cleaned vent filters, attempt to push the filter(s) as far as they will go. Also when filter is removed from ventilation system, the vent's microswitch is inactivated. This is a safety feature intended to stop the raising mechanism and blower until the filter is reinstalled properly.
